Cancer

Sadly, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer in their lifetime; however, the overall survival rate increased to 53.9% in 1983–90 from 49.3% in 1974–76 and is likely continuing to improve. Much of the improvement in survival rate can be attributed to early detection.

Once you have been diagnosed with cancer, you need to make very serious decisions in a very short period of time. When chemotherapy and radiation seem scary, or don’t feel like the right decision for you, where can you turn? What about natural treatments? Does it have to be one or the other? Is it safe to use natural treatments alongside conventional treatments? Is there any research to back up the use of natural treatments?

Naturopathic Doctors are trained in the safe use of natural treatments. Since natural does not mean safe, we know what natural medicines work with different chemotherapeutics (and can augment the effects) and which ones interact and should be strictly avoided. There is a surprising amount of evidence-based medicine in the natural world with respect to the treatment of cancer.

Naturopathic Medicine offers ways to provide nutrition and to alleviate the pain and side effects (palliative care) associated with the cancer and conventional therapies. Naturopathic Doctors can help you get through your treatments with some strength to keep the fight going.

At Rooted, Dr. Kerri Fullerton specifically provides a caring and supportive environment to help you and your caregivers make the best possible decisions. Cancer can cause you to feel very isolated, particularly if you feel you need to be strong for your family and friends. Dr. Kerri’s office can be a safe place to say whatever you need to say, to entertain any and all ideas, and to speak openly about your fears.
